Another flippin' good year at the Guildford Pancake Race

Continuing our annual tradition, we were pleased to sponsor the annual Guildford Pancake Race earlier this week.

Charles Stanley was pleased to sponsor the annual Guildford Pancake Race that took place on Shrove Tuesday on Guildford High Street. Charles Turton, our Guildford office's Branch Manager, helps support this annual event through his directorship of the Charlotteville Jubilee Trust. The race is also sponsored by Eagle Radio 96.4 FM, whose presenter, Peter Gordon provided a great morning’s entertainment and commentary of the races for the community.

This year Charles Stanley entered a relay team of Nicola Mavroleon, Katie Cray, Sharon Turton and Charles Turton himself, and got battered coming fourth. A lot more training is required for 2021! Congratulations to those who took part in the first race of the day, the Charles Stanley Relay, which was won by a team from Experience Guildford.

Further races provided great entertainment from the Under 5’s, to the Mascot Race, not to mention when actor Will Barton surprised the crowds watching the races by competing as Prime Minister Boris Johnson in the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre’s team with many asking for selfies.

Luckily the rain of recent days held off and the sun shone for all the competitors. Lots of pancakes were consumed or flipped and the event raised an outstanding £812 for Real Change Guildford, a local charity that helps the homeless and the less well-off with small grants that can make all the difference. Another flippin’ good morning and great tossing everyone, well done!
