Abbas's Biography

Abbas Owainati joined Charles Stanley in the newly created role of Head of Asset Allocation in 2023. He is the lead portfolio manager for the centrally managed Multi Asset Guidance Portfolios (MAGP). Abbas Owainati's background includes a successful tenure (5 years) focusing on multi-asset strategy for the BT Pension Scheme Management (Brightwell), where he played a pivotal role in shaping investment strategies for the £47 billion scheme including managing the scheme's derisking path. Prior to this Abbas worked at Old Mutual Global Investors (now known as Quilter Investors) for 10 years as a macro strategist across portfolio management. In this role, he led macroeconomic research and worked with fund managers in formulating the asset allocation strategy. Abbas holds an MSc in Economics and BSc (Hons) in Financial Economics from the University of Essex.

Adam Carruthers is Senior Collectives Analyst at Charles Stanley. He is responsible for the selection of best-in-class managers across all asset classes for inclusion in Charles Stanley's multi-asset class portfolios and in the company's collectives Preferred List. He was previously a Fund Manager with Barclays Wealth and Investment Management, responsible for the day to day management of a suite of UCITS multi-manager vehicles across multiple domiciles. Adam graduated with a Masters degree in Economics from Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh, and holds the Chartered Wealth Manager designation from the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment.

Amish Patel is Head of Equity Research at Charles Stanley, which he joined in 2023. He leads a team of analysts responsible for the in-house coverage of over 70 global equities and oversees the firm's Global Equity Guidance Portfolio. He also contributes to the construction and oversight of the Multi-Asset Guidance Portfolios. His investment philosophy is grounded in fundamental, bottom-up stock selection with a long-term focus on quality, capital allocation, and sustainable competitive advantage. Amish brings over 20 years of experience as a global equity investor. Prior to joining Charles Stanley, he was Senior Equity Analyst and US Strategy Lead at Quintet Private Bank, where he helped direct EUR 2bn in equity assets and co-managed several model portfolios. He has also held senior investment roles at Brown Shipley, Talisman Global Asset Management, Quilter Cheviot, and Janus Henderson, covering a wide range of sectors and geographies. Joining Charles Stanley in December 2013, Andrew works with existing and prospective clients to deliver highly personalised financial plans to assist them throughout their lives and beyond. When Andrew is not working, he spends much of his time officiating, volunteering and supporting his children in their varied sporting and leisure activities. Celine Legaspi joined Charles Stanley's Research Team in June 2025 to lead the day-to-day management of the Sustainable Multi-Asset Portfolios and support on responsible investment analysis. Prior to joining Charles Stanley, Celine led on impact and sustainable fund research at investment consultancy, Redington, and evolved the firm's approach to assessing asset managers on ESG integration and stewardship across asset classes. Notably, she supported pension fund and charity clients allocate capital towards dual objective solutions addressing climate, nature, health, housing, and education outcomes. She previously worked at a sustainability quant manager to develop corporate ESG rating methodologies and sustainability data products. Celine holds a first class degree in Sustainable Development and Business from the University of Warwick.

Christopher has a BA in Accountancy and is a Chartered Member of the Securities Institute. Sir David Howard joined Charles Stanley in 1967 and became Managing Partner in 1971, Managing Director in 1988 and Chair in 1997. Sir David retired from his position as Chair of the Board of Raymond James Wealth Management Group Limited in September 2023 and now holds the distinguished position as Chair Emeritus following his years of outstanding service to Charles Stanley. Sir David served as Lord Mayor of London from 2000 to 2001 and for many years as a Director of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI). Sir David has also served as a Director of the Financial Services Skills Council, Chair of the Council of City University, President of the Chartered Management Institute, Chair of the CISI Examinations Board and as a Director of the Personal Investment Management and Financial Advice Association. Prior to joining Charles Stanley Francesca was CFO of Cynergy Bank, a fast-growing Specialist Lender, and before that, she spent 19 years at NatWest/RBS, where she held a variety of senior positions across the Commercial Corporate and Investment Banking Divisions, including CFO of Lombard, RBS Invoice Finance and RBS Global Transaction Services. Mark is a senior investment manager in the Tunbridge Wells office who is responsible for managing portfolios on behalf of a wide range of clients including private individuals of all ages both in the UK and overseas, charities, trusts, SIPPs and corporate accounts. Mark is also a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Securities & Investments. He started his stockbroking career with Kleinwort Benson back in the late 80s when he worked in the City for five years before joining Shaw & Co back in Tunbridge Wells. He became manager of their Crowborough branch and subsequent to the acquisition of Shaw & Co by Charles Stanley in 1998, the two branches merged in 2004. During this time Mark helped steer his clients through the TMT or Dotcom 'bubble' of the late 1990s, and more recently the Financial Crisis of 2007/08. He was also part of a small team who managed a Utilities Fund which had an enviable track record of being the No.1 performer for many years. Mark lives with his wife Francesca in the village of Matfield just outside Tunbridge Wells and enjoys fly fishing, skiing, playing backgammon and walking the dogs at weekends.

He joined Charles Stanley in 2005 as part of a large team from Prudential Bache to provide a stable environment and a UK parent company for his client base. Phil has been with Charles Stanley since 2002 and was the Deputy Client Services Manager for the company's online division before taking up the role as the Edinburgh Office Manager in September 2018. Phil graduated from Heriot-Watt University in 1997 after completing a Batchelor of Science Degree in Building Surveying and a Diploma in Project Management. He worked within the construction industry for several years before joining Charles Stanley. He is responsible for the smooth running of the Edinburgh office on a day to day basis along with dealing with staff matters. Phil also assists with the Branch's Corporate Actions and is part of the team who deal with Execution Only clients.

Phill joined Charles Stanley in 1993, working within the Contracts Department in our head office and it wasnt long before he was in the throes of exams to become an Investment Manager, and subsequently to be awarded a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Securities & Investments. Phill has been actively managing a range of clients portfolios for over 25 years and offers a bespoke management service for private clients, trusts, personal pensions, and company account. Having worked in the City for 25 years, Phill had the opportunity to move to the Leigh-on-Sea branch, bringing with him his wealth of knowledge and expertise. This was a natural fit as not only is he familiar with the team, but he also resides in Leigh-on-Sea, with his wife and children. More recently, Phill has taken over the role of Branch Manager overseeing all aspects of the office and clients portfolios. What spare time he has, he enjoys boxing and football, and is a Tottenham Hotspur season ticket holder.

Tina is a Senior Equity Analyst. In the 2011 Financial Times/StarMine Awards for Europe, she was rated the number one stock picker for the utilities sector. She is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) and achieved Chartered Wealth Manager status in 2013. She has also completed the CFA UK Certificate in ESG Investing. Prior to joining Charles Stanley in 2008, she was a lead analyst at boutique equity research firm Hardman & Co. Tina holds a DPhil in Psychology from Oxford University and an MSc in International Securities, Investment and Banking from the ICMA Centre.

Tina joined Torrie & Co in 1990, who were taken over by Charles Stanley in 2002, and is responsible for operational matters in the Edinburgh branch, utilizing her wealth of knowledge and experience. As well as dealing with compliance and human resource matters, Tina assists with the administration of Advisory and Discretionary private client portfolios for Adam Page and David Steel. Tina is a Chartered Member of the CISI and has completed the CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Awareness of Mental Health Problems. Away from the office Tina enjoys silver jewellery making and watching sport.

Prior to joining, he worked at Quilter for 22 years where he held a number of roles, namely their BDM working with national advice businesses and networks, the Regional Sales Manager for the SW region and he also spent 4 years as their Head of Marketing. Tom is responsible for developing new strategic partnerships with financial adviser firms in the UK to help them deliver standout investment solutions to their clients. Outside work Tom loves to ski in the winter, play golf when the sun is out and run around after his 4 sons.

Tom Parkes joined Charles Stanley in January 2023 as an associate analyst where he focused on researching exchange traded funds (ETFs) and index tracking funds. He subsequently moved to the Macro team in May 2025 as an asset allocation analyst where he provides insights for the research team's Multi-Asset Guidance Portfolios. In 2025, Tom was named in Citywire's "30 under 30" 2025 list and ETF Stream's "Rising Star" 2025 series. He holds a Master's degree in Business Management and Geography from the University of Edinburgh, the Investment Management Certificate (IMC) and has passed Level 2 of the CFA qualification.
