Abbas Owainati

Abbas's Biography

Abbas Owainati joined Charles Stanley in the newly created role of Head of Asset Allocation in 2023. He is the lead portfolio manager for the centrally managed Multi Asset Guidance Portfolios (MAGP). Abbas Owainati's background includes a successful tenure (5 years) focusing on multi-asset strategy for the BT Pension Scheme Management (Brightwell), where he played a pivotal role in shaping investment strategies for the £47 billion scheme including managing the scheme's derisking path. Prior to this Abbas worked at Old Mutual Global Investors (now known as Quilter Investors) for 10 years as a macro strategist across portfolio management. In this role, he led macroeconomic research and worked with fund managers in formulating the asset allocation strategy. Abbas holds an MSc in Economics and BSc (Hons) in Financial Economics from the University of Essex.

Adam's Biography

Adam Carruthers is Senior Collectives Analyst at Charles Stanley. He is responsible for the selection of best-in-class managers across all asset classes for inclusion in Charles Stanley's multi-asset class portfolios and in the company's collectives Preferred List. He was previously a Fund Manager with Barclays Wealth and Investment Management, responsible for the day to day management of a suite of UCITS multi-manager vehicles across multiple domiciles. Adam graduated with a Masters degree in Economics from Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh, and holds the Chartered Wealth Manager designation from the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment.

Adam protects and grows wealth for a range of clients, including private clients, companies, trusts, pensions and charities. He graduated from Newcastle University with a First in Business Management and is a Chartered Wealth Manager. He lives in Yorkshire with his wife and two sons.

Adam joined Torrie in 1999 having previously worked at Bell Lawrie White following graduation from university in 1993. He is a Chartered Fellow of the Securities Institute and holds an MA in French and Business Studies from Edinburgh University. He lives near Edinburgh with his growing family of 3 children.

For 10 years prior to joining Charles Stanley, Alex held investment management and private banking roles in the wealth management division of a global banking organisation. In his spare time Alex is a keen runner, regularly completing long distance races, up to and including marathons.

Alistair Soames joined Charles Stanley in 2000 having worked at Chase Manhattan, Morgan Stanley and Lloyds previously. Alistair specialises in bespoke investments portfolios for Private Clients within Pensions, ISA's and offshore bonds and holds the Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment and Financial Planning qualifications. Although no longer giving advice on financial planning, his experience and knowledge in this area enables him to guide clients on the nature of advice they may require and the processes involved. Over the course of more than two decades, Alistair has developed significant specialist expertise in Institutional Structured Investments, a discipline in which he uses within portfolios as well as playing a leading role across the firm. As Co Branch Manager of Tunbridge Wells office, Alistair now leads a highly experienced team of investments managers and a Financial Planner overseeing client assets, the majority managed on a discretionary basis.

Amish's Biography

Amish Patel is Head of Equity Research at Charles Stanley, which he joined in 2023. He leads a team of analysts responsible for the in-house coverage of over 70 global equities and oversees the firm's Global Equity Guidance Portfolio. He also contributes to the construction and oversight of the Multi-Asset Guidance Portfolios. His investment philosophy is grounded in fundamental, bottom-up stock selection with a long-term focus on quality, capital allocation, and sustainable competitive advantage. Amish brings over 20 years of experience as a global equity investor. Prior to joining Charles Stanley, he was Senior Equity Analyst and US Strategy Lead at Quintet Private Bank, where he helped direct EUR 2bn in equity assets and co-managed several model portfolios. He has also held senior investment roles at Brown Shipley, Talisman Global Asset Management, Quilter Cheviot, and Janus Henderson, covering a wide range of sectors and geographies. He holds a BA in Financial Economics from Kingston University and an MSc in Investment Management from Bayes Business School. He is a CFA charterholder and a regular contributor to thought leadership, media commentary, and industry events.

Andrew Clifford has over 24 years of experience providing financial planning advice to Private Clients, Trusts and Corporate Bodies. Based in the Guildford office, he supports the investment managers provide a comprehensive advice service to clients. He graduated from University of Wales College Cardiff in 1993 and following a short stint working for a financial publication, trained as a financial adviser initially specialising in advising medical and dental professionals, before joining a large accountancy firm. Joining Charles Stanley in December 2013, Andrew works with existing and prospective clients to deliver highly personalised financial plans to assist them throughout their lives and beyond. When Andrew is not working, he spends much of his time officiating, volunteering and supporting his children in their varied sporting and leisure activities. As this was not busy enough, he was finally persuaded by his children to welcome two young dogs to the family as a shared responsibility. He is currently awaiting the Sunday lie in promised!

Angela Banks joined Greig Middleton Stockbrokers in 1987 and passed her Registered Representative exam a few years later. She has worked in the Guildford office for 20 years, seeing the changes in the firm to Gerrard and then Barclays Wealth, and provided full secretarial and administrative support to the varying teams over the years. She joined Charles Stanley in 2007, together with the rest of the Guildford office, where she continues to provide support to the team. Angela actively supports a local charity, Walk the Walk Worldwide (famous for their MoonWalks in aid of breast cancer), and has done for many years. Celine's Biography

Celine Legaspi joined Charles Stanley's Research Team in June 2025 to lead the day-to-day management of the Sustainable Multi-Asset Portfolios and support on responsible investment analysis. Prior to joining Charles Stanley, Celine led on impact and sustainable fund research at investment consultancy, Redington, and evolved the firm's approach to assessing asset managers on ESG integration and stewardship across asset classes. Notably, she supported pension fund and charity clients allocate capital towards dual objective solutions addressing climate, nature, health, housing, and education outcomes. She previously worked at a sustainability quant manager to develop corporate ESG rating methodologies and sustainability data products. Celine holds a first class degree in Sustainable Development and Business from the University of Warwick.

Activities outside the office revolve around his small farm in Peasenhall, where he lives with his family. He has a great interest in conservation and spends most of his spare time planting and looking after his trees.

Charles Turton has over 32 years of experience in the financial services industry. He graduated from Durham University and joined Greig Middleton Stockbrokers in 1994. This evolved into Gerrard Investment Management and subsequently Barclays Wealth. He helped to found the Charles Stanley Guildford Office in 2007. He became a Fellow of the Securities Institute in 1998 and specialises in Private Client, Trust, Charity and Pension portfolio management. He was born locally in Dunsfold, now lives on the outskirts of Guildford and enjoys his walk to work. In his spare time, he is kept busy by his wife and teenage daughter. He was a Director of the Charlotteville Jubilee Trust, a local charity, for 20 years and has a general interest in skiing, boating and classic cars.

Charlotte joined the financial industry in 1997, originally qualifying as an independent financial adviser before becoming an investment manager at a boutique local firm in a team looking after institutional life and pension funds, hedge funds and private clients. She joined the Exeter office in 2004. She now specialises in multi-generational wealth management for high net worth individuals and families, and Responsible Investment strategies for individuals and charities. She is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Securities & Investment and holds the Financial Planning Certificate, Investment Management Certificate and Securities Institute Diploma. Since 2012 she has been a trustee for a charity offering almshouse accommodation in Exeter.

Mark is a senior investment manager in the Tunbridge Wells office who is responsible for managing portfolios on behalf of a wide range of clients including private individuals of all ages both in the UK and overseas, charities, trusts, SIPPs and corporate accounts. Mark is also a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Securities & Investments. He started his stockbroking career with Kleinwort Benson back in the late 80s when he worked in the City for five years before joining Shaw & Co back in Tunbridge Wells. He became manager of their Crowborough branch and subsequent to the acquisition of Shaw & Co by Charles Stanley in 1998, the two branches merged in 2004. During this time Mark helped steer his clients through the TMT or Dotcom 'bubble' of the late 1990s, and more recently the Financial Crisis of 2007/08. He was also part of a small team who managed a Utilities Fund which had an enviable track record of being the No.1 performer for many years. Mark lives with his wife Francesca in the village of Matfield just outside Tunbridge Wells and enjoys fly fishing, skiing, playing backgammon and walking the dogs at weekends.

Peter Aylward is a Chartered Financial Planner, based in our Birmingham Office. In general practice, Peter specialises in pension and retirement planning, as well as the funding of Long Term Care. He also undertakes financial planning work for the families and professional advisors of vulnerable people who are subject to a Lasting Power of Attorney or a Court of Protection Deputyship Order. Peter graduated from the University of Birmingham where he read Economic & Social History, entering the financial services profession in 1997. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute and the Personal Finance Society.

Peter joined Charles Stanley in September 2009 from Gerrard Investment Management Limited (Barclays Wealth), where he was a member of the Portfolio Management Team. As Branch Manager, Peter advises clients across the United Kingdom and specialises in managing investment portfolios for private clients, trusts, charities and Self-Invested Personal Pensions (SIPPs). He works closely with clients to deliver tailored investment solutions designed to meet their long-term financial objectives while providing a high level of personal service. Peter has played an active role within the investment profession and previously served as both a Committee Member and President of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) South Coast branch. Outside of work, Peter is married with two young children and enjoys running and cycling.

Peter's Biography

Peter Luders joined the UK stockbroking business of Matheson Securities in 1987 as an investment analyst and worked alongside the partners of the firm assisting with their private client business. The firm grew substantially and was sold to Prudential Bache of the US in 1999 . During this period, Peter was becoming more involved with the private client side of the business and he dropped his research role in 2004. He joined Charles Stanley in 2005 as part of a large team from Prudential Bache to provide a stable environment and a UK parent company for his client base. Peter was made a Director of Private Clients in the Investment Management division in 2010 and has been managing the Charles Stanley Select Portfolio since June 2009. He has an honours degree in Business Studies and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Securities Institute, as well as a Chartered Wealth Manager.

He has been awarded the status of Chartered Fellow of the CISI since 2010. Phil has been married for 25 years and has a wonderful wife and son. The family have travelled widely and Phil enjoys playing sport. He has a handicap of 5 at his local course, Kingsdown.

Philip has previously sat on regional committees for the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and the Institute of Directors and is currently a director of Exeter Racecourse. Phil graduated from Heriot-Watt University in 1997 after completing a Batchelor of Science Degree in Building Surveying and a Diploma in Project Management. He worked within the construction industry for several years before joining Charles Stanley. He is responsible for the smooth running of the Edinburgh office on a day to day basis along with dealing with staff matters. Phill joined Charles Stanley in 1993, working within the Contracts Department in our head office and it wasnt long before he was in the throes of exams to become an Investment Manager, and subsequently to be awarded a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Securities & Investments. Phill has been actively managing a range of clients portfolios for over 25 years and offers a bespoke management service for private clients, trusts, personal pensions, and company account. Having worked in the City for 25 years, Phill had the opportunity to move to the Leigh-on-Sea branch, bringing with him his wealth of knowledge and expertise. This was a natural fit as not only is he familiar with the team, but he also resides in Leigh-on-Sea, with his wife and children. More recently, Phill has taken over the role of Branch Manager overseeing all aspects of the office and clients portfolios. What spare time he has, he enjoys boxing and football, and is a Tottenham Hotspur season ticket holder.

Simon began his career in June 1987 with Penney Easton in London. Through a series of mergers and name changes, the firm eventually became Allied Provincial Securities. In 1994, Simon took a break from the investment industry to study for a MBA at Bradford University Management School, graduating with distinction. Following the completion of his studies, Simon joined Greig Middleton, which later became part of Barclays Wealth. In May 2008, Simon and Jonathan Baker were given the opportunity to establish Charles Stanley's new office in Leeds. Outside of his professional career, Simon is actively involved with a number of local charities and community initiatives within the village where he lives with his wife Helen.

Simon's Biography

Simon is a Chartered Wealth Manager and has been working within the financial sector since the mid-1990s, working initially for a subsidiary of NatWest providing wholesale finance for international manufacturers and then moving into Private Client Wealth Management in the late 1990's. Simon started his stockbroking career at Capel Cure Sharp, which later became Gerrards and later Barclays Wealth before moving to Charles Stanley over twenty years ago. Simon is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment. Simon lives with his wife Sam and two children outside Cirencester along with his many dogs.

Tim Venner serves as the Business Development Director at Charles Stanley within the Financial Planning division, where his business development acumen and strategies help the business grow. Tim has over twenty-five years' experience in this field with an exemplary track record for developing relationships, distribution channels and strategies to increase business output. Prior to joining Charles Stanley, he was an independent business coach delivering performance programmes to business leaders and senior managers in the Midlands. Previously, Tim served as a director for an executive recruitment business based in Birmingham and as the head of business development for a national communications company. Tim has extensive experience in strategic partnerships, developing relationships and building multi-channel routes to market.

Tina is a Senior Equity Analyst. In the 2011 Financial Times/StarMine Awards for Europe, she was rated the number one stock picker for the utilities sector. She is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) and achieved Chartered Wealth Manager status in 2013. She has also completed the CFA UK Certificate in ESG Investing. Prior to joining Charles Stanley in 2008, she was a lead analyst at boutique equity research firm Hardman & Co. Tina holds a DPhil in Psychology from Oxford University and an MSc in International Securities, Investment and Banking from the ICMA Centre.

Tina joined Torrie & Co in 1990, who were taken over by Charles Stanley in 2002, and is responsible for operational matters in the Edinburgh branch, utilizing her wealth of knowledge and experience. As well as dealing with compliance and human resource matters, Tina assists with the administration of Advisory and Discretionary private client portfolios for Adam Page and David Steel. Tina is a Chartered Member of the CISI and has completed the CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Awareness of Mental Health Problems. Away from the office Tina enjoys silver jewellery making and watching sport.

Prior to joining, he worked at Quilter for 22 years where he held a number of roles, namely their BDM working with national advice businesses and networks, the Regional Sales Manager for the SW region and he also spent 4 years as their Head of Marketing. Tom is responsible for developing new strategic partnerships with financial adviser firms in the UK to help them deliver standout investment solutions to their clients. Outside work Tom loves to ski in the winter, play golf when the sun is out and run around after his 4 sons.

Tom Parkes joined Charles Stanley in January 2023 as an associate analyst where he focused on researching exchange traded funds (ETFs) and index tracking funds. He subsequently moved to the Macro team in May 2025 as an asset allocation analyst where he provides insights for the research team's Multi-Asset Guidance Portfolios. In 2025, Tom was named in Citywire's "30 under 30" 2025 list and ETF Stream's "Rising Star" 2025 series. He holds a Master's degree in Business Management and Geography from the University of Edinburgh, the Investment Management Certificate (IMC) and has passed Level 2 of the CFA qualification.

William joined the team in Ipswich in 2018 having spent 10 years in the City where he worked at various financial brokerages. His interest in financial markets and ability to dissect what is (and isn't) important brought along a column in the City A.M. newspaper in a previous role. This, tied with a natural ability to get on with people, meant a move into Wealth Management was the perfect fit. He has just finished his final exams to become a qualified Wealth Manager and at some stage he would like to take the third and final CFA exam.

Wyn is an Investment Advisor in the Bath team, having joined Charles Stanley in 2008, after 21 years in retail banking. Wyn is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment, and his role within the office is to support Chris Andrews in managing investment portfolios for private clients, pension funds and charities. Wyn is a keen sports enthusiast, and especially enjoys watching rugby, and following his home town team of Llanelli Scarlets.
