Investing in the future of our blue planet:  Charles Stanley hosts Guildford event with Sue Flood

Award-winning photographer, filmmaker and zoologist, Sue Flood, spoke about her new book, Emperor: The Perfect Penguin, at an exclusive event held by wealth manager Charles Stanley in Guildford.

Over 60 people from across the area attended the invitation-only reception at The Tithe Barn in Loseley Park, Guildford.  Sue spoke about her experiences in some of the world’s harshest and most demanding environments, having worked on global hits such as The Blue Planet and Planet Earth, with Sir David Attenborough, and gave an insight into proposals to protect the Arctic and make it a nature reserve.

The event was hosted by Guildford residents, investment managers, John Devine and Kate Nathoo who joined the Charles Stanley Guildford team earlier this year, to reflect the firm’s interest in sustainability as an investment theme and its commitment to sustainable investing.

Kate Nathoo, said:  ‘Our clients are increasingly interested in ethical and impact investing.  Although there’s a common misperception that only millennials are interested in an ethical approach, we are seeing demand from investors of all ages.  However, as the younger generation ages and begins to amass or inherit wealth, demand for this area of investment will only accelerate.

“Hearing Sue’s first hand witness statement of the damage being inflicted reinforces the need to look after our environment in every way that we can.  By investing in companies that focus on sustainability, we can start to influence change and play our part.”

Sue shared her experiences of journeying to the remote Antarctic penguin colonies to capture the life and remarkable survival of the Emperor Penguin. As well as following the difficult journey of the penguins across the sea ice, she revealed the hardships that she endured to capture the perfect photograph, including camping in an unheated tent in temperatures around -30C for over a month. Sue's behind-the-scenes experiences prove that it is only with patience, endurance, and several thermal layers that one can capture magical moments on Earth's most inhospitable continent.
