The FTSE 100 fell by 0.2% over the course of the week by mid-session on Friday following a shock general election result that ended in a hung parliament. UK growth data was revealed to be the weakest in the European Union in the first quarter.


The UK was shown to be the worst performing economy in the European Union in the first three months of 2017. Official figures from Eurostat showed that, with growth of 0.2% in the first quarter of the year, the UK lagged every other nation in the bloc. The Greek economy, by contrast, grew 0.4%.
