An Evening of Carols with Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) Foundation

Tis the season to be jolly, and what could be jollier than a festive evening of carols?

On 12th December 2018, Charles Stanley and the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) Foundation welcomed guests to the prestigious Long Room at Lord’s to enjoy carols performed by the talented singers of London Contemporary Voices. Guests included famous cricket players and MCC foundation supporters, along with clients, friends and employees of Charles Stanley.

Following welcome drinks and canapés, guests were seated in the beautifully decorated Long Room and greeted by Phillip Hodson, Chairman of the MCC Foundation and Paul Abberley, Charles Stanley’s CEO. The talented singers of the London Contemporary Voices then took to the stage and mesmerised the audience with their clear voice and undeniable enthusiasm for both song and Christmas.

The choir sang a wide range of Christmas songs; from the traditional Carol of the Bells, to contemporary classics such as Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas. During the short intervals festive drinks and snacks were served. Mulled wine with mince pies and colourful gingerbread cookies were the ultimate yuletide treats.

Of course, no evening of carols would be complete without a little audience participation. London Contemporary Voices encouraged guests to help them troll the ancient yuletide carol, filling the room with the spirit of the season as the voices of over 200 people rang out.

As a key sponsor of the MCC Foundation, Charles Stanley are familiar with the foundation’s exceptional work to promote cricket and are proud to align ourselves with such an organisation. We have been lucky enough to experience first-hand the world-class talent which the MCC Foundation helps to nurture; when on 7th June Charles Stanley’s cricket team narrowly beat the Tower Hamlet’s cricket hub at the Lord’s Nursery Ground. It was great to play these very talented cricket stars of the future.

Music, sport and finance are more similar than one might expect. To excel in any of these fields requires no small amount of teamwork, commitment and patience, and this event allowed my colleagues and I to reflect on how satisfying it is to work at a firm which encourages these traits in its staff.
