Dixons upbeat despite retail concerns

Dixons-Carphone has beat City expectations in its full-year results and issued an upbeat assessment of its future prospects. But investors remain cool on the UK retailer sector for now.

There’s no doubt conditions are tough for retailers at the moment. With inflation rising and wage growth pedestrian, concerns about the health of the high street have hit valuations in the sector hard. Indeed, Dixons Carphone shares were demoted from the FTSE 100 in the March 2017 index reshuffle, after sliding from the start of 2016.
