Henry Brennan, Investment Writer, looks at the market-moving events that have shaped the UK equity markets this week (March 13 to March 17, 2017).

The FTSE 100 crossed 7400 for the first time in its history on Thursday and closed at a new record high of 7,415.95 as investors reacted to the interest rate hike over in the US and the defeat of populist candidate Geert Wilders in the Dutch election. Mining companies were among the biggest FTSE risers following a weakening of the dollar. The index climbed 0.8% over the course of the week by mid-session on Friday.
